I've been missing in action I know. Student teaching really did take over my life and I just did not have time for photography, I still took pictures but didn't have time to edit or blog about it... it was a few bittersweet months giving up something I love doing and concentrating on something else I love! Teaching! Now that's I've graduated I've been getting asked to take pictures and I'm going to take every opportunity to continue learning about photography. Here are a few from today. This is Elsie, her mom is friends with one of my mom's friends..or something like that, anywho, she's adorable and we got along just fine. These are her 7 year old pictures for her Hawaiian themed birthday party this weekend. Hope you like!

New Goals

I would like to thank everyone for all of your support during the past year. It was a great year of photography, I learned a lot, met new friends and feel privileged to have worked with other photographers. Early last year, it was my goal to learn and shoot as much as I could to try to grow and perhaps even find "my vision" I feel like I definitely grew as a photographer and also realized how quickly I became consumed by it. Because I did all my editing after my son went to sleep, there were many sleepless nights and a lot of procrastinating on homework, all for photography. This year I'm starting a new venture and have new goals. This year, I'm shooting for me, and only me. I will work on personal projects that reflect what I love. Because I'm student-teaching this year, my main focus will be my family, and also for that reason I'm focusing on shooting primarily with film. This will allow me to do what I love..take pictures..and not worry about instantly going through them and spending hours choosing the best and editing. I'm excited about this change and will often have pictures to share. I hope you'll "follow" my blog to stay updated on this new venture. Again thank you for your support and keep it real ya'll!

Michelle and I go way back. We worked together for a while then I went back to school and didn't get to hang out as much, but she's one of those friends that you can go a while without seeing then when you do see each other you pick up where you left and it was like never really being apart. I'm so happy for her because she's happy :) We took these pictures at the beautiful Evins Mill Resort in Smithville, TN, go visit them if you haven't, it's lovely this time of year I hope you enjoy these, I did!

I had a great time photographing this little girl. I have to say by the time I was done I was so exhausted. Every time I take pictures of little kids this happens and it's because you pretty much have to chase them around and get down to their level, so that meant a lot of sitting, squatting, running, laying on the ground, trying not to fall over, etc. I'm definitely not complaining, I love taking pictures! I hope you enjoy these! I did.

Busy Busy Weekend!!

Since my rental lens got here Thursday it's been a busy busy weekend!! But I love it, and the more I get to do pictures the more I realize how much photography means to me. Wow, I haven't done one of these in a while! Here is the before picture taken by Angie Arthur

And here is the after. As you can see I've kept my processing to the minimum only brightening up the picture a bit and cropping it.First I added a curves adjustment layer. Then I cropped it to remove the other kid's shoulder. Next I ran "Green with Envy" by Totally Rad Actions. Voila!

Senior Pictures!! Jordan

Isn't senior year fun? I remember mine really well even though it happened 8 years ago! Wow, I'm getting old. Anyways, Jordan is a senior this year. I did his sister's Ashlie senior pictures last year. They are both super smart kids with bright futures ahead of them. The funny thing about doing Jordan's pictures is that we almost didn't get to do them. The very first time we met we got caught in a storm and only got a few...here are some of these. They were taken at Cannonsburgh in Murfreesboro.

Due to the rain and humidity that day, we decided to redo the shoot at a later, sunnier day. But as soon as we got to Murfreesboro that day it rained all over again. So we all went out to eat :)

A few weeks later we decided maybe Murfreesboro didn't like us, so we headed over to Rock Island. You can tell a few weeks went by, look at his hair..it grew a bunch!

The real treat that day was this place. Thank you lady whoever you are for letting us take pictures in your cool collection..

and last but not least I couldn't leave out Jordan's sweetheart Blakney. Thank you Blakney for making him smile for the camera!

This is who I am. Assignment 1

I have been following Divas and Dreams' blog for a while, and when I saw this workshop today I got so excited to participate! I'm a little behind but hopefully I'll get caught up soon. All the assignments are aimed to help you find YOU! As Christina so eloquently puts it "When you step out of your comfort zone, that is when you develop yourself as a creative person. The more you know yourself and the more you use your personality in every project the more creative and amazing it will be"

1. Cien Sonetos de Amor-- I'm in love! I love my husband, my son, our lives! When John and I were dating he gave me a poem by Pablo Neruda, it was so sweet and nice and romantic. For a long time we would write poems to each other, we don't do that so much anymore but that was the foundation of our marriage and now our son..our love for each other.

2. Night Dreams-- I'm a dreamer. I've always been and I always will. My parents were dreamers. They dreamed big and moved us here from Mexico. I love to get caught up in day dreams. I dream for a better future for all of us! I also have the craziest dreams and I can almost remember every single one of them! I would go crazy if I couldn't remember my dreams in the morning. I got this book so I could write them down as soon as I woke up. Life changes start with a dream.

3. El Cerro de la Silla-- The picture of the mountain (El cerro de la silla) is in Monterrey. That's where I was born and sometimes it feels like part of me is still there. Half of my family still lives there and I hope I can visit them soon. After my grandmother died I felt like I couldn't go back there but each day I feel more and more the need to go back. I need closure.

Happiness in the air

The following pictures make me happy! Even though by the end of this we were tired, sticky, dehydrated, and starving we laughed the entire time. The girls are my cousins and they agreed to model for me so I could get some shots for the I♥Faces photo challenge this week. I'm getting more and more used to my lens..and I think I'm getting better at this whole photography thing! I've had a lot of inspiration this week, so thank you to all the great photographers out there that inspire me everyday! Enjoy!

Week 25- IHeartFaces Photo Challenge

Today we had so much fun! For this challenge I asked my cousins Cecilia, Ale and Dulce to be my models for the day. It was so hard picking just one photo to post. There were so many good ones (that I will share in a different post) I chose this one because it was a candid shot and she just exudes beauty and happiness. The light at that spot was wonderful and I just knew I had to shoot wide open to get some nice bokeh and I did!! I hope you like it as much as I do!

Adrian's New Do Photoshoot

This is how long Adrian's hair was before we cut it...

And this is now!! I was sad when we cut it but he needed it. It's been so hot and humid here and he would just get all sweaty and hot super quick..plus I don't have any a.c in my car so rides were becoming quite uncomfortable for him. I'm getting used to it, and as you can see he is happy as ever!

This is my edit for this week's Fix it Friday. For my edit, I adjusted the curves, smoothed her face and brightened her eyes a bit. I also cropped the image and burned the edges. Conceptual Fashion Photo Shoot

Last Wednesday was awesome. I can't even begin to tell you how I excited I was when I knew I was going to assist in a photo shoot. The man behind the camera was Michael Howard. I met him a few months ago when he led the I♥Faces Photo Walk in Nashville. Ever since then I've been following his work on his Facebook and his Webpage. He is an amazing photographer; he shoots weddings, underwater, fashion, and musicians. What I love most about his work is his generosity to share his knowledge. Micheal is having a workshop in Kansas City Missouri on July 7th and 8th where he will help photographers find their unique vision. This comes directly from his workshop website "I firmly believe in encouraging people to make their photography about what excites them most instead of what pays them most. While it's great to make a living through photography, it's best to feel alive through it. My goal is to help photographers express their point of view and discourage them from becoming clones of people they admire." Isn't that awesome! People like Michael are the reason why I choose to pay it forward. Thank you so much for letting me part of this! The shoot Wednesday was conceptual fashion. Conceptual just means that there was an idea and planning before the image was created and also usually there is some type of message. I was kinda nervous while driving there. I always get nervous when meeting new people, and I kept thinking I was just not going to fit in...BUT all the people there that made this shoot possible were SO NICE!! There was a good energy all around and I felt like I had worked with these people before. I didn't get to take many behind the scenes shots since I was busy helping Michael out, but here are a few.

The beautiful super nice Salome (you may recognize her from Bravo's Make me a Super Model Season 2) getting makeup done by the super talented Eryk of DaturaGlamourCouture.

The house was beautiful. There was amazing art everywhere and the living room had glass walls! I wish I had a house like that full of NATURAL light!

Two weeks ago during our family reunion my cousin Hugo asked me to take some photos of him. I'd like to take this opportunity to not only show you who he is but also to tell you a little bit about him and the work that he has been doing with local Latino youth. Hugo is currently serving as the youth leader of the First Hispanic Baptist Church in Smithville, TN and organizing the Youth Union DUNAMIS throughout the whole state. The group will be holding its 12th Conference of Baptist Youth this August. The event is called IDENTIDAD, and its goal is to allow young people to identify with God through Jesus Christ. I just want to say that I'm really proud of him for turning his life around and inspiring others to do the same. Espero te gusten las fotos Hugo!

Week 18 - “Then & Now” Photo Challenge

Oh my gosh! I can't believe I'm posting this... but hey it's for fun, and we had FUN doing these. In fact my family and I are going to recreate other pictures just for kicks :-) This picture was taken a looong time ago!! around 1991..Steffy (my sister) was about 1.5 yrs old, so that means I was about 6..almost 7.. My mom just looks the same! We went to a studio in Mexico to have this picture done so that we could send it to my dad. Dad was in Tennessee at that time and mom wanted to send him a good picture of all of us. This photo cracks me up because you can see my mom is frustrated, because Steffy wouldn't sit still. I KNOW the feeling VERY WELL now that I have a 1.5 year old..oh my goodness... and look at me.. where was I looking? hahaha..and my bangs!! I almost cut them that short for the picture, but then I chickened out. Go to I Hear Faces to see more hilarious entries!!

ps..can you believe I found a sweater this similar..It belongs to Mrs. White, she's 97 years old.. I told you I'm really an old lady on the inside!! haha

I took all these photos with my Point & Shoot Camera on macro setting. I'm always amazed at what this little camera can do! These were taken last year..I remember taking them when I was pregnant. I would go walking everyday especially as I got closer to my due date! Now that the weather is warm I hope to go back and explore some more!

What a busy busy weekend. Saturday Adrian and I went on a playdate over Charlie Mae's house, it was fun day and made me forget about the creepy white van that was harassing me driving there!! Then we came home and went back to Murfreesboro to get groceries and stuff for Sunday. After that the day was gone! Luckily I got some great shots that day of the kiddos...

Today was just as busy, first we ate lunch over my in laws, it was delicious as always. There was ham, salad, asparagus, potatoes, olives, green beans, rolls, dips, strawberry shortcake, and brownies! Adrian had his first Easter egg hunt..thank you Aunt Linda for making eggs! Then it was off to my grandmas for a Mexican Pascua dinner..which consisted of Fish, lentils, rice, shrimp cakes in broth, and best of all CAPIROTADA. which I haven't had in a LOOOONG time, so I was super excited. Here are some pics of this wonderful weekend spent with great friends and family...

Week 12 I Heart Faces Challenge

This week's theme is "focusing on angles" I normally try to shoot from different angles when I'm taking a picture, but I have to say that it is harder than it seems. Sometimes you end up with a weird horizon or you can actually exaggerate a person's facial features, so you kinda have to be careful. I took this picture of Steffy today while finishing up my mentor assignment. I really like how it turned out!

This weekend was in the 50's, that's about 15-20 degrees warmer than it's been so even if there was a bit of a chill, we braved it and spent the day outside! Saturday I took Adrian to play with Micah, Audrey's niece. It was hard getting snapshots of them two because all they want to do is run when let lose :) but it was fun! Then I went to my mom's for a little bit and got a really nice shot of her and Adrian.

Week 8- I♥Faces Photo Challenge- "Hands-On Fun"

I'm always amazed at my mom's hands. Her hands are soft and delicate despite years of hard work. Over the years she has done so much with them for us. I think back of when we lived in Mexico and she would wash all of our clothes by hand. She has made so much food from scratch, tortillas, tamales, gorditas, soups, all that cutting, and mixing, and kneading. When we were babies she knitted our clothes, little hats, dresses, as we got older she had to sew rips, let clothes in or sometimes out.. Those hands have been caring in times when we were ill, checking our foreheads for a fever, wiping tears when we didn't feel good, giving hugs. And even when didn't like it, it was probably for our best, but those hands have taught us discipline :) We probably deserved to get our butts spanked! Now that she's a grandma she works extra hard so she can get her work done in 3 days and watch Adrian for 2! She is caring for him as much as she has cared for us. She is talented and makes the most beautiful knitted/ crocheted hats and scarves. I LOVE my mom! and I think this picture shows how delicate she really is!

This week's challenge is Kisses!!! Who doesn't love them right? I personally can't get enough kisses from these two :) This weekend was so awesome!! I actually met Amy and Angie from I♥Faces!! We all met with a group of photographers in Nashville this weekend and we walked around with Michael Howard and took pictures!! It was so fun, Michael is an awesome photographer, make sure you check out his website and Angie and Amy are so nice and down to earth and helpful, I really don't think I've met people as giving as them. Week 5: I ♥ faces Photo Challange "Places I love"

This week's challenge is to post photos of places we love, we find romantic, etc... (oh yeah Valentines is almost here huh?) I decided to post a few pictures I took during our honeymoon. We went to Destin, Florida. It was almost 5 years ago!! Adrian was just a twinkle in our eyes :) Anyways, that week was very romantic, we were newlyweds :) Still caught up in all the wedding bliss, didn't have a care in the world! I remember feeling so happy, so independent, so in love. I have to say that I still feel that way. I am so thankful for everything that John and I have. I love my life with him. Since the beginning of our marriage, sunsets have had a special place in my heart. When I think back to our honeymoon I remember these beautiful sunsets, I also love them because one day a few years ago John told me he looked forward to seeing many sunsets with me, so every time I see a pretty one I think of him and smile, or if he is with me, we stop to admire their beauty and in my mind I can picture us doing that for the rest of our lives.

I really can not remember getting this much snow since well...when we moved to Tennessee from Mexico. That was 15 years ago! We probably have had more snow since but I dont remember being this pretty! One of my most fondest memories of snow was when my mom first saw it. She started crying! We all thought it was so beautiful and we went outside to play. At that time we lived on Jacobs Pillar road with my Aunt Janice. Janice took us down the road and we took pictures, had a snowfight then she even collected to some to make icecream!! I thought that was crazy, but it turned out pretty good! Today as I looked outside I remembered a lot of those times. Everything here (in Tennessee)seemed so new and amazing, I felt like that today seeing the snow. You really can find beauty everywhere!

Today was my sister's birthday. She is 21! I can't believe it...Stefany is an awesome person. We've been through so much together. When we lived in Mexico we were playing rough and I pushed her and she cracked her head open :( I felt sooooo bad...oh my gosh..and mom was so mad at me..it was a sad sad day...I'm sorry Steffy for pushing you. Then later we moved to the U.S..we didn't know a word of English..we were scared but we made it!! Steffy graduated from cosmetology school, she hangs on to her dreams and she is always there for me, but the best part is that since she's been here she's always made me smile!! That's my favorite thing about Steffy, when we are together we just laugh and goof off and carry on and it's so natural, because it's real..it's a thing only sisters share! I love you Steffy, you'll always be my little sister...

Woo, school is out and I have the photo itch again :) My wonderful , loving, caring, out of this world, handsome husband bought me a new lens !!! I cant wait to start taking pictures with it!! So I haven't posted in a while. I've been super busy with school. I'm not even joking when I say busy! Not only that but I have to do my normal mom/wife duties and I also get to go to be a teacher's assistant once a week. So lately all my energy has been going towards school and I've been slacking in taking pictures, and I miss it!! I have some very special friends having babies soon, so maybe I'll get to do newborn photos! I really hope I get to. I'm also trying to save up some $$ and get a new lens, maybe a nifty fifty.

I'm addicted. It's true. I love photography. I love looking at pictures, love taking them, love reading about it, love thinking about it, love talking about it. These past few weeks I haven't taken any pictures and I'm having withdrawals. I really want a new lens, specifically the 50mm 1.4 the 1.2 would be better, or maybe the 24-70mm lens, or an 85mm.... Why cant I be rich so I could have all these things? Then I could be GREAT! I want to be great so bad it hurts. You dont even know. I'm confused.

On a different note, adrian will be 1 yr old soon. That little stink! I'm planning his birthday party and a photoshoot of course.

You know what else I love? Newborns, they are so sweet, and cuddly, and I miss Adrian being that little already. Here is a cute newborn, I'm hoping I can take more baby pictures soon.
